Chennai monsoon timing — when to waterproof
Chennai's northeast monsoon hits in October-November. Best windows for waterproofing work:
- July-August — ideal terrace + exterior wall season. Dry surface, 3 months for full cure before rains.
- December-February — second-best window after monsoon ends.
- March-May — too hot for some coatings; check product temperature limits.
- September — too risky, rain can interrupt cure cycle.
See our Chennai monsoon waterproofing checklist for the full pre-rain prep guide.
Why Chennai needs more waterproofing than most cities
800-1200 mm of rain in 6 weeks during the northeast monsoon, plus year-round salt-laden coastal air east of OMR, plus 35°C+ summer heat that opens micro-cracks in RCC. Skipping integral waterproofing (LW+) at pour time and topical coating (Newcoat) post-pour means leaks by year 2-3. The calculator helps you size both correctly so the slab survives 8-10 years before re-coat.
